Jeg’s super Quick and Box, No Box Weekend

   Well it was a very hot weekend on and off the track. The temps were in the high 80’s to low 90’s but the racing was great with the biggest turnout of racers this year. We had the Jeg’s Super Quick Series and the UMTR racers plus Super Pro, No-Box, and Pro Bike on Saturday and Super Pro, No-Box, and Pro Bike on Sunday.

 

   In the Jeg’s Super Quick Series Qualifying for the 32 car field was led but Butch Lambert of Ft. Wayne, In. with a 4.532 and the bump spot was Scott Carman from Lewisport, Ky. With a 4.746. In the quarter finals Glenn Yancey of Waynesville, Oh. got the better light but lost to Butch Lambert of t. Wayne, In. who ran a 4.510 on the 4.50 index. Next up it was Phillip Oakley of Owensboro, Ky. With a perfect reaction time .500 to take the win over Steve Taylor of Riverside, Oh. In the next pair Mike Bagley of Indianapolis, In. got the win over TY Smith of Ft. Wayne, In. In the last pair of the round Tiffany Branon of Madisonville, Ky. cut the better light to take out the defending series champion Dean Mcilvain of New Carlisle, Oh. In the semi finals Tiffany had the better light but lost to Mike who ran closer to his dial in with a 4.536 on a 4.53. Butch red lighted giving the win to Phillip. In the final Mike Bagley red lighted giving the win to Phillip Oakley.

 

    In the UMTR Quick Stick Tim Murphy from New Palestine, In. lead the field in Qualifying with a 5.589. In the quarter finals Dave Stehlin of Harrison, Oh. got the win over John Hoeble of Cleves, Oh. In the next pair it was Jimmy Halverstadt of Cleves, Oh. with a .507 light and the win over Jay Tietz of Martinsville, In. Next up Steve Grubbs of Crittenden, Ky. Beat out Jay Grieshop of West Harrison, In. In the last pair Kris Rachford of Alexandria, Ky. Red lighted giving the win to Tim Murphy of New Palestine, In. In the semi finals Murphy red lighted giving Halverstadt the win. Stehlin red lighted moving Grubbs to the final. In the final Jimmy got the better light and the win over Steve.

 

   In the UMTR Street Stick Quakifying was lead by Mike Fields of Kettering, Oh. with a 10.876. In the quarter finals Brad Sizemore of Maineville, Oh. got the win over Jason Brunck of Leesburg, Oh. Charles Polly of Lewisburg, In. beat out Craig Metcalf of Middletown, Oh. Derek Wamsley of Russellville, Oh. got the win over Gene Manning of Florence, Ky. In the last pair it was Walter Lawson of Miami twp, Oh. winning over Curt Hardleback of Greenburg, In. In the semi finals Sizemore had the better light and got the win light over Polly. Lawson red lighted away his chances to Wamsley. In the final Wamsley had the better light but broke out giving the win to Sizemore.

 

  In Super Pro with 124 cars in the first round it was going to be a long night with some great racing. In the quarter finals Matt Robbins of Fairfield, Oh. got the bye run in to the semi finals. Todd Filson of Fairborn, Oh. ran a 4.935 on a 4.93 to get by Tim Thather of Xenia, Oh. Next up Mike Sturgill of Beavercreek, Oh. driving Darren Campbell’s Dragster got the win over Courtney Cluxton of Lynchburg, Oh. Next up Melissa Vance of New Carlisle, Oh. ran dead on her dial in with a 4.970 on a 4.97 dial in for the win over Dave Cox of Washington Court House, Oh. In the semi finals Todd Filson ran 4.938 on a 4.93 to move to the finals over Matt Robbins. Mike Sturgill had a .514 to .516 reaction time lead that paid off over Melissa Vance. In the final Todd was dead on again with a 4.932 on a 4.93 dial in to take the win over Mike.

 

  In the No-Box class quarter finals it was Tony Jewell of Hamersville, Oh. getting the bye run. James Sanders of Dayton, Oh. won the double break out race with Dwight Fox of Springfield, Oh. Mike Gill of Washington Court House, Oh. broke out giving the win to Steve Collier of Xenia, Oh. In the semi final Sanders got the bye run. Collier ran a 9.635 on a 9.63 dial in to take the win over Jewell. In the final Collier red lighted giving the win to Sanders.

 

  In the Pro Bike quarter finals Steve Withem of Fairborn, Oh. got the bye run. Gary Fredrick of Springfield ran a 9.486 on a 9.48 dial in to get by Bradley Shellhaas of Springfield, Oh. Thaddeus Neeld of  St Paris, Oh. got the win over Kevin Hoskins of Cincinnati, Oh. In the semi finals Neeld got the bye run. Fredrick got the light and the win light over Withem. In the final Neeld ran a 9.496 on a 9.49 dial in for the win over Fredrick.

 

  On Sunday in the Super Pro semi finals George Buchhalter of Fairborn, Oh. used a .509 light to take out Steve Taylor of Riverside, Oh. Mike Sturgill of Beavercreek, Oh. driving Darren Campbell’s car Again used a .510 light to take out Rob Kropfeld of Hamilton, Oh. In the final Sturgill had the better light and got the win light over Buchhalter. Sturgill was hot with a runner up on Saturday and the win Sunday.  

 

   In the No-Box semi finals Mark Griffith of New Carlisle, Oh. used a better light to get by Phil Borton of Urbana, Oh. Doug Caplinger of Xenia, Oh. used a .506 light to beat Tony Jewell of Hamersville, Oh. In the final Griffith cut a .500 perfect reaction time and ran a 10.140 on a 10.14 dial in for the win over Caplinger.

 

   In the Pro Bike semi finals Wes Johnson of North Hampton, Oh. got the bye run. Homer England of West Chester, Oh. used the better light to get the win over Bradley Shellhaas of Springfield, Oh. In the final Homer had a small starting line advantage .530 to a .534 and got the win over Wes.
