The Firecracker Nationals kicked off with gates opening at 10:00 for the days racing. The weather couldn’t be any better as the sun was out with mid 80’s as the day progressed. In the Box class quarterfinals it would be Billy Back of New Carlisle on the bye run to start the round. Next was Jason Shepherd of Riverside against Todd Filson of Fairborn. At the tree Shepherd pulled away red, moving Filson to the next round. In the final pair of the round, it woud be Jay Cook of Springfield against Mike Sturgill of Beavercreek. Sturgill would dial a 4.80 to the 6.21 of Cook. Cook would leave early and Sturgill would move on. In the semi finals action, Back and Sturgill would face off to see who would face Bye runner Todd Filson. Sturgil dialed a 4.80 to the 4.82 of Back. Sturgill would go red, and that moved Back to the finals. In the finals Filson would dial a 4.95 to the 4.83 of Back. The difference at the tree was .0020 with Filson better. Todd would get the win light running a 4.958 against Billy’s 4.840. In the Bike category it would be Jesse Sowers of Urbana against Joe Deck of Morningview, Ky to start the quarters. Sowers dialed a 9.93 to the 8.86 of Deck. Deck would be better at the tree, a .533 along with an 8.913 run for the win light. Next was Homer England of West Chester against Larry Hunter of Xenia. England dialed a 9.86 to the 9.34 of Hunter. Hunter blasted of the starting line with a .504 light, however Homer rode closer to the number with a 9.890 run for the win light. Chance Russel of Dayton had the Bye run. In the semis it would be Deck with the Bye, and England and Russell would pair up to see who would face Deck in the finals. England dialed a 9.88 to the 9.62 of Russell. Chance got the better light with a .510, and backed it up with a 9.636 run for the win. In the Finals it would be Deck vs. Russell, however Russel would redlight, and that made Deck the winner! In the No Box Class it would be Wally Winner Mick Pence of Bainbridge on the Bye to start the quarters. In the next pari we would see Braden Bellmer of West Chester against Ron Simko of Lebanon.Bellmer dialed a 10.24 to the 10.15 of Simko.Bellmer would have the better light, but would breakout and moved Simko to the next round. Mike Edwards of Dayton faced Rob Crider of Kettering next. Edwards dialed at an 11.80 to the 10.22 of Crider. It would be Crider with the starting line advantage after a .504 light, with a 10.240 run to take the win. In the last pair of the round it would be Jeff Stockes of Riverside against Steve Collier of Xenia. Stokes dialed a 10.82 to the 9.65 of Collier. Collier would get the better light with a .521 and run a 9.690 run for the win light. In to the semis it would be Simko and Crider up first. Simko dialed a 10.15 to the 10.22 of Crider. At the tree Simko got a head start with a.518 light, and backed it up with a 10.147 run to move to the finals. Pence and Collier faced off to see who else would goto the finals. Pence dialed a 9.86 to the 9.65 of Collier. Collier would get the better tree this time with a .521 abd ran hard for a 9.647 double breakout win. In the finals Simko rolled in with a 10.14 dial to the 9.65 of Collier. Reaction time onle .0031 difference with Simko better, he ran a 10.145 for the win aginst a breaking out Collier.
