Kil-Kare Wins Go To Vallo, Poole,
Gussler, Boggs
by Jerry Wahl
Xenia, OH. (7/23/08) - For the
first time in many years Kil-Kare Speedway had racing action on a
Wednesday night in an effort to make up for the rain-outs the
facility has experienced this season. It was a full program of
NASCAR Whelen All-American Series events with John Vallo, Chad
Poole, Phil Gussler, Chris Boggs respectively claiming feature
wins.
The NASCAR Whelen All-American
Series late model thirty lap feature had Sam Heckman and Bobby
Justus bringing the field to the green with Heckman taking the lead
as third place starter Tim Allensworth moved into second only to see
the caution come out when Justin Alsip spun on turn three. Heckman
continued to lead but fast timer John Vallo came from fifth to pass
Allensworth and then on lap six took the lead and started to pull
away from the field in his Gary Estes/Weiler Welding machine.
Heckman and Allensworth continued to run second and third with Bobby
Justus running fourth and Ricky Bates fifth. Chad Pendleton was
running fifth with Joe Hill and Donnie Renner right behind. Vallo in
the meantime had built up over a half lap lead on the second and
third place running Heckman and Allensworth. On lap twenty-six the
caution came out when Justin Alsip apparently blew an engine and
exited the track which bunched up the field for the restart. Vallo
again pulled away to claim his fourth win of the yearas a side by
side battle for second with Allensworth taking the spot dropping
Heckman to third. Bobby Justus was fourth and Pendleton fifth.
Don Mahaffey and Sam Heckman
started on the front row of the first late model heat with Mahaffey
taking the lead as fourth place starter Tim Allensworth tried the
outside groove to catch third place running Bobby Justus as the
caution came out on lap four when Justin Alsip spun on turn four.
Mahaffey kept the Oakley Blacktop special out front to take the win
followed by Sam Heckman, fast timer John Vallo and Allensworth.
Virgil Powell jumped out front at the start of the second heat as
Donnie Renner tried the outside with Joe Hill right behind. Renner
made his pass good on lap six to take tthe win with Powell second,
Hill third and Chad Pendleton fourth.
Chad Poole
took the lead at the drop of the green in the modified feature as
Bill Burba took the second spot with John Lawhorn, Dick Dunlevy, and
Shane Shirk following. Shirk passed Dunlevy on lap nine to take over
fourth. At the half way point it was still Poole in front as
Lawhorn was moving up on second place running Burba but Shirk was
gaining on Lawhorn. As the laps wound down Burba crept closer and
closer to Poole as Shirk did the same to Lawhorn. With five laps to
go the top fofur tightened up but it was Poole in his Storco
Construction open-wheeler taking the win followed by Bill Burba, ohn
Lawhorn, Shane shirt, and Dick Dunlevy.
The first heat of the
modifieds saw Charlie Davis and Rodney Kreusch bring the field to
the line with Davis charging out front as Dick Dunlevy moved into
second with Chad Poole and John Lawhorn right behind. Davis in the
Muffler Brothers of Xenia special took the win with Dunlevy,
Lawhorn, and Poole trailing. Grant Campbell and Jamie Breneman set
the pace in the second heat with Brenneman taking the lead but Jason
Mahaffey was in the chase from his fifth place starting berth but
the young lady shook him off to take the win in her Muffler Brothers
of Xenia sponsored car. Mahaffey was a close second with Campbell
third and Jack Jones fourth.
Phil Gussler and Justin Miller
led the sport stock feature field to the line for their twenty lap
feature which had a false start as Gussler jumped the start. When
the green unfoiled Gussler did get the lead in his first appearance
at Kil-Kare as the caution came out when Tom Williams and Derrick
Louderback tangled on the backstretch making for a complete restart.
Gussler again took command with Mike South Jr. and Travis Diggs
chasing. Fast timer Tom Williams was on the move from his fifth
place starting slot as he set sail on the outside. He took third on
lap five as the aution came out when Steve Salyers smacked the turn
four wall to be sidelined. Gussler again set the pace on the restart
as Williams tried the outside of second place running South. South
shook him off as Williams rode his rear bumper and then went to the
outside again to run side by side and then surging ahead of South to
steal second. Gussler in his Bob's Locksmith sponsored car scored
his first win at Kil-Kare with Williams a very close second with
South right behind in third. Diggs and Keith Bales rounded out the
top five.
Arron Harshbarger jumped out
front at the start of the Oakley Blacktop compacts only to see Chris
Boggs slip by to take over the front spot with nineth place starter
Tim Haerr up to second by lap three. Haerr challenged Boggs on the
outside as Boggs kept shaking him off as Ron Sagers was running a
close third. Haerr was challenged for second as the top trio ran
under a blanket. Back in the pack Bo Hoelscher and Mike Robertson
battled for positions. The caution came out with three laps to go
and the battle for the win resumed Boggs stayed out front to take
his third feature win of the year in his Doug Kilboyle Insurance
Agency sponsored machine. Haerr was second in his Mahaffey Salvage
car with Sagers third, Mike Robertson fourth and Aaron Harshbarger
fifth.
The first heat of the compacts
had Mike Robertson Bryan Lynch leading the field to the green with
Robertson shooting out front as Chris Boggs took over second and
then went after Robertson with Troy Patterson right there in third.
At the checker it was a close finish with Robertson picking up his
first ever checker at Kil-Kare. Second was Patterson with Boggs
third and Bo Hoelscher fourth. Davey Shaw had the lead in the
second heat but Aaron Harshbarger changed that as he took the lead
and win with Shaw second, Joe Hoelscher third and Dave Sagers
fourth.
Kil-Kare will be back in
action Friday night with the crowd pleasing Trailer Race of
Destruction plus the NASCAR Whelen All-Amerrican Series late models,
modifieds, sport stocks, and Oakley Blacktop Compacts with the IKO
MiniCup cars also on the program. Gates open at 6p.m. and racing at
8 p.m.
