Kil-Kare Speedway Honors 2010 Drivers

Xenia, OH. - A large crowd gathered at the Fairborn American Legion Saturday night to pay tribute to the Kil-Kare Speedway NASCAR Whelen All-American Series drivers for the 2010 season. Claiming top honors in the Sonic Drive-In late models was Dayton's Don Mahaffey who garnered eleven feature wins while Troy's Greg Stapleton was crowned the modified champ with eight wins to his credit. Columbus driver James Harding with four feature wins was crowned the sport stock champ and Xenia's Joe Hoelscher, a four time feature winner claimed the compact championship. Drivers second through tenth were also honored. Numerous special awards were presented with the mechanic of the year award going to compact driver Bo Hoelscher. Modified Brandon Oakley was tagged the most improved driver of the year while modified driver Ryan Fleming received the rookie of the year award. Receiving the crew of the year award was the Oakley Blacktop crew who maintained the cars driven by Don Mahaffey Jr., Mike Stacy, and Brandon Oakley. Former legends car driver Terry Scherz who advanced to the late models was named sportsman of the year while Don Mahaffey Jr. was crowned driver of the year. The annual Jim Cushman award went to sport stock driver Travis Digges. The special newbie award was bestowed upon pace car driver Chuck Zimmerman. Kil-Kare officials announced a special $5,000 to win compact event to be held in July which is expected to attract the largest field of compacts ever assembled at the Greene County facility. |
